John Cena’s heel turn is one of the biggest events in a WWE ring. The world was shocked when the 16-time World Champion joined forces with ‘The Final Boss’ The Rock at the Elimination Chamber 2025. A vicious attack on the current WWE Universal Champion, Cody Rhodes, followed. Now, an exciting and enthralling match between Cody and John Cena awaits at the biggest stage of them all—Wrestlemania 41.
Wrestlemania and all the flagship WWE shows now have a different home. Starting April 1, all WWE programming will be live on Netflix in India. Fans of the sports-entertaining business will be able to watch instant replays if they miss the live stream. WWE programming will no longer be available on linear television.
The entire WWE roster is flying through Europe for its flagship weekly shows, RAW and Smackdown. However, WWE is yet to explore India in terms of hosting events. Several wrestlers have toured the country as part of promotional tours, but hosting a premium live event seems like a distant dream.
Are there plans to bring the WWE to India for a flagship event? WWE President Nick Khan says it’s a wait-and-see scenario right now.
“That’s the goal, and we’re pencilling out 2026 and 2027 now. In one of our first meetings with Netflix after the deal was signed. Without asking, Netflix handed us a list of their priority countries. At the top of that list was India. And knowing that the race would come into play on April 1 in India, if it’s important to Netflix, assume it’s important to us. India has always been important to us. So we’re pencilling it out now, and let’s wait and see,” Nick Khan said while replying to another Hindustan Times question.
‘WWE second most popular sport in India’
During the media interaction, Nick Khan also spoke about how WWE is the second most-watched sport in India, only behind cricket. “WWE is the second most popular sport in India, behind cricket… There’s multi-generational viewing. Families watch it together. Women and men watch it alone,” he said.
“You’ll notice a lot of dramas and stories with deep narratives. That’s exactly what we believe WWE is,” he added.
Coming to John Cena back again, he has made two appearances on WWE Raw so far, following Wrestlemania, explaining his actions. The Hollywood superstar also turned on the crowd, saying he never had fans on his side, and they have turned him into a joke over all these years.
What made John Cena’s exploration of the bad side of himself more entertaining and jaw-dropping is the fact that no one saw it coming. John Cena has been an eternal baby face, but his turning heel reminded WWE fans of the day Hulk Hogan went bad to join Scott Hall and Kevin Nash to form the New World Order at the WCW Bash At The Beach in 1996.
This is one of the biggest storylines heading into the Wrestlemania season, and one cannot wait to tune in to Netflix to see what happens next.
“There’s no more flipping through channels or wondering what’s airing when,” said Chris Legentil, executive vice president of WWE.
“It’s live if you want it live, or available any time later. That kind of frictionless viewing is what fans want,” he added.
