Reconsider opening of schools and colleges in Delhi-NCR… Why did the Supreme Court say this?

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has directed to take all necessary steps to control air pollution in Delhi-NCR. During the hearing, the Supreme Court made important comments regarding the opening of schools and colleges.The court has asked the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to consider opening schools and colleges and resuming regular classes. The court said that due to schools not opening and physical classes not taking place, many students are being deprived of midday meal. They lack the necessary resources to attend online classes.

Recently, due to severe air pollution, regular classes in schools and colleges of Delhi-NCR were banned.Justice Abhay S. A bench of Justices Oka and Augustine George Masih ordered the CAQM to initiate action against Delhi government and Delhi Police officials who committed ‘serious lapses’ in strict implementation of GRAP-4.
