Taapsee Pannu’s friends were concerned that she was walking into a human trafficking situation on first date with Mathias Boe
Actor Taapsee Pannu, who tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend Mathias Boe in March, recently revealed how she met the former badminton player. During the promotions of her new film, Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba, she looked back on their short courtship and nearly decade-long engagement. Taapsee revealed that Mathias proposed to her within a year after their first meeting. She was engaged to him for over nine years.
Recalling their first date, Taapsee said in a conversation with comedian Raunaq Rajani, “He proposed to me, saying, ‘I would like to take you on a date either in Denmark or Dubai because these are the two places I know very well to plan things’. I was like, ‘Who will go all the way to Denmark? Who will go through the trouble of getting a Schengen visa.’ It is so difficult. So we decided Dubai.”
As it was going to be her first meeting with Mathias, Taapsee recalled feeling nervous. “I was like, ‘Why is this guy interested in me. Being from this part of the world, we have this notion about white people. We all have an inferiority complex. So, I was like, ‘Why me?’ Yet, I was prepared to meet him.”
Taapsee said that her friends were very concerned about her safety as she jetted off for Dubai to meet Mathias, because they didn’t know much about him. She said, “My friends were like, ‘Please be careful, what if he sells you off?’ I am not kidding. A friend of mine sent me with the contact number of her sister, who lived in Dubai. But, luckily, he turned out to be a nice man and it’s already been 11 years.” In the same conversation, Taapsee Pannu revealed that they now have a house in Dubai.
